Pride and Prejudice

Book Glutton is marking the tenth anniversary of "Andrew Davies's sublime dramatisation" of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice. Her link to the BBC site on the production states,
"Of course, Colin Firth’s portrayal of Mr Darcy was a key reason why this production has been so memorable."

When I read the second Bridget Jones book, I laughed until I cried during Bridget's "interview" with Colin Firth.

Keira Knightly is going to be in a new movie version of the book. Though I cannot see how the BBC version can be topped, anything with Judi Dench is worth my time. This movie may bring some new readers to Austen's novels.

My favorite Austen movie is still Persuasion. Amanda Root is a perfect Anne, as is Ciaran Hinds as Capt. Wentworth.

I'm with you on Judi Dench - I love this woman's acting like no other woman's acting... She's got this knack of absolutely owning any film in which she appears (Shakespeare in Love, the Bond films) even if she's not the star of it ! I'm going to see the new movie out of curiosity about Keira Knightly as the only thing I've seen her in so far is Pirates of the Caribbean...

I think I've only seen one other Austen adaptation - Emma, but I've loved that book since reading it age 12, so the film didn't really work well for me... If I do get to see P&P at the cinema, expect to see it Blogged !

I have only seen her in one other movie besides "Pirates." Do rent or borrow, "Bend it like Beckham." That movie is fun.

The Gwyneth Paltrow 'Emma' was not memorable for me. I did LOVE Alan Rickman in 'Sense and Sensibility' and I enjoy Emma Thompson/Robert Hardy et al. I LOVE Alan Rickman in anything though. I danced when I heard he had been cast as Snape.

Well I was obliged to watch Emma when we studied the book in the first year of my degree... I was quite annoyed, because I had my own ideas of what Emma and co. looked like. It would be interesting to go back and watch the film again though, now that I've seen and enjoyed Shakespeare in Love.

I'll check the local library for Bend it Like Beckham, although I confess I'm not as much of a football fan as I am a cricket fan, in spite of my Dad teaching me to play the former game when I was quite young ! I'll give Sense and Sensibility a try too. Emma Thompson is good fun, and I've loved watching Robert Hardy since the days of All Creatures Great and Small !
