The word moot is an archaic term meaning "argue, debate, discuss." In early English history, a moot was a meeting to discuss local affairs. Moot comes from the Old English gemot, meaning "meeting."
NPR has a very interesting interview with Randy Thom who is a "sound designer" for the film industry. He describes the art of sound and is asking for the public's help to identify new sounds for the movies.
