Touching History

I am a guest at my old school today, reading to my 5th graders about the Holocaust. The books I am sharing/booktalking include Forging Freedom by Hudson Talbot, I Never Saw Another Butterfly by Hana Volavkova, The Cats in Krasinski Square by Karen Hesse, Passage to Freedom: The Sugihara Story by Ken Mochizuki, and The Butterfly by Patricia Pollaco.

It is gratifying to see how these powerful stories touch the kids' hearts in a way just lecturing on the topic never would.
