The word moot is an archaic term meaning "argue, debate, discuss." In early English history, a moot was a meeting to discuss local affairs. Moot comes from the Old English gemot, meaning "meeting."
I haven't even read all of his books yet -- very sad as well, but he passed away so peacefully. What a lovely, full life and a good way to go.
I've never had the pleasure of reading him before but it's always sad when we lose a legend :(
