The word moot is an archaic term meaning "argue, debate, discuss." In early English history, a moot was a meeting to discuss local affairs. Moot comes from the Old English gemot, meaning "meeting."

Advancing Rita
Well, the current track for Hurrican Rita (which is rarely correct) shows the hurricane ploughing into Texas just west of Houston. That would be right over the top of MY HOUSE!
"Exciting" is certainly a euphemism! :) Katy is inland a bit, but not enough to make me feel warm and cozy through a potential cat. 3 or 4 hurricane. I hope it goes south further--not that I'd wish a hurricane on anyone. It would be better if it'd just fizzle out in the Gulf, but that's probably (no, definitely) wishful thinking.
